Should I Create Content Video?

I am thinking about making some tech videos. I want to start with short, informative videos. Make some tutorials and some higher-level videos. Even though I am just starting out I want to make sure that the videos I produce are high quality. It is hard not to do with the equipment available today. At the same time, I don’t want to spend too much money early on incase I don’t stick with it.

I figure for the informative videos I would us my iPhone for the camera but where I plan on shooting these videos doesn’t have good lighting (may be a blessing…can’t really see me all that well!!). I also want to ensure that sound quality is good. So, I am going to make the following investments to build a "studio":

  1. Neewer LED Ring Light 18-inch
  2. Lavalier Lapel Omnidirectional Phone Audio Video Microphone

When I am making videos on my computers, coding samples for instance, I will be using the following equipment which I already have:

  1. Blue Yeticaster Professional Broadcast Bundle
  2. Logitech BRIO – Ultra HD Webcam

I haven’t made any decisions when it comes to screen capture and video editing software. I am on a Windows machine, so iMovie is out. Right now I am using a trial of Camtasia Studio from Techsmith and OpenShot. Camtasia costs around $250 one-time fee and OpenShot is open source. Their interfaces look very similar and they seem to have the comparable functionality. I could also go with Adobe products, but they are really expensive. I think in the end it is going to come down to simplicity. I don’t want to spend a lot of time editing. I want to concentrate on filming.

I kind of wanted to get some thoughts down and see where they go. I may follow up after I have filmed a couple of videos and update you on how my choices have panned out. In the meantime keep an eye out for some content.
